Introduction to the Academic Integrity Module

All students arrive at York with an understanding of how to practice academic integrity from their previous studies. Yet, academic integrity expectations vary. These expectations can vary between specific courses and disciplines, and they can also vary between different global contexts. In this module, you will learn about the values and practices of academic integrity specific to our academic culture at York University and learn how you can apply these to your own work.

It’s important to know what’s expected of you as a student. This module consists of different sections that explain York’s expectations for academic integrity and provide information to help you meet them. First, you will learn about academic integrity and its related values. Then, you will review different types of academic misconduct and explore strategies to avoid each. Additionally, you will find guidance on collaborating with classmates, using AI-based tools for learning, and properly incorporating and citing sources in your work. Finally, you will see how academic integrity applies to life beyond the university.

You can refer to this module throughout your time as a York student as a reminder of why integrity is important and how you can demonstrate it.  To supplement your learning, within the module you will find various supports and resources available at York to help you gain the skills and the confidence needed to complete your degree with integrity.
